My formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Teaching Credential from the University of California at San Bernardino and a Masters Degree from Grand Canyon University. I have been an artist since I was able to pick up a pencil. Through the years I have experimented with many different approaches to art. I have found that a naive, primitive approach is most engaging. My subject matter and color choices exude a feeling of innocence and joy. I strive for simplicity of form. The human figure in my work reflects my interpretation of the interactive world and universal spirituality interwoven and reflected through the human characteristics of freedom, vulnerability, and strength.
There are several reasons why I am particularly drawn to nudes as a subject. First, nudity releases the subject from social contraints and class distinction. They are stripped of privilege and bias. Second, by being unclothed, they are portrayed as an animal in our raw naked humanness, not unlike all other living creatures with which we share this earth. Lastly, nakedness exposes us and makes us vulnerable, but through this susceptibility we can also reveal the strength of our inner core.
